The CARD team at Balgrist is an interdisciplinar team with a technical focus.  It consist of full-time employees and students. The students typically work on research projects for three to six month.

Dr. Philipp Fürnstahl, Head of CARD
Dr. Philipp Fürnstahl received his PhD from ETH Zurich in 2010 after working nearly four years in the field of Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery Planning. Thereafter, he worked in the software industry (Siemens Schweiz) as a team and project leader. Dr. Fürnstahl started leading the CARD team at Uniklinik Balgrist in June 2012.
Dr. Lazaros Vlachopoulos, MD, PhD 
 

Lazaros Vlachopoulos is consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialized in computer-assisted orthopaedic surgery. He received his medical degree in 2004 from the RWTH Aachen and passed in 2011 the Swiss board exams in orthopaedic surgery. In 2017 he received his PhD in medical image analysis from the ETH Zurich.

Fabio Carrillo, PhD-Student
Fabio Carrillo received his Masters degree in Robotics, Systems and Control from ETH Zürich in February 2015 with focus on biomedical engineering. He worked as a quality engineer in the medical devices industry (Hocoma AG). Since September 2015 Fabio Carrillo works as a researcher in the CARD team while conducting his PhD studies at ETH Zurich.
Fabien Péan, PhD-Student
Fabien Péan graduated from TU München and Ecole Centrale de Lille in 2015 with focus on computational science. His research interests include computational (bio)mechanics, physics-based animation and parallel programming. Since October 2015, Fabien Péan pursues his PhD at ETH Zürich under supervision of Prof. Orçun Göksel, in cooperation with the CARD team.
Firat Özdemir, PhD-Student
Firat Özdemir received his masters degree in Electrical Engineering from EPFL in 2015 with focus on information technologies. His research interests include medical image analysis, computer vision and machine learning. Since October 2015, he continues his PhD studies at ETH Zurich under supervision of Prof. Orçun Göksel, in collaboration with CARD team.
Michael Hecht, Programmer/Engineer
Michael Hecht received his diploma degree from the Fachhochschule Hamburg in 1983, majoring in communications technologies and subsequently working in the semiconductor industry until 2000. He then switched to become a software developer. In his recent position with Varian Medical Systems he worked in the field of oncological proton treatment as an application developer. Michael Hecht now has become a member of the CARD team as a Programmer/Engineer.
Alexander Schneider, Biomedical Engineer
Since May 2016, Alexander Schneider works as an operation planner in the CARD team.
Pierrick Bersier, Biomedical Engineer
Pierrick Bersier received his Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Bern in June 2015 after a former studies in Mechanical Engineering. Since January 2017, he works as an operation planner in the CARD team.
Laura Leoty, 3D Biomedical Engineer
Laura Leoty received her Master’s degrees from EPFL and Ecole Centrale de Nantes in 2015, with focus on materials for medical applications. After a first position in the supply chain department at Johnson & Johnson, she joined the CARD Team as Biomedical Engineer in January 2017.
Katja Roser, Administrative Assistant
KR has worked in several positions as Assistant to Directors and is coordinating and organising the internal administrative processes, as well as functioning as Assistant to the Head and Team of CARD.
